A very beautiful (and hard) piece to photograph: dark lighting and lots of movement. So happy I can trust my Nikon lense 2.8 80-200mm: sharp as hell and bright as heaven! :) Love this lense more then anything! And since I was far away from the stage, the zoom was just perfect.
There it is again: my Nikkor 2.8 80-200mm… Saved the day. That’s the best. My editor from The New York Times just loved this photo. I do too, for so many reasons: it’s a unique portrait during a performance, full of real expression in a real moment and features one of my favorites dancers in the planet, Marcelo Gomes from American Ballet Theater.
Oh, man… what can I say: I use Nikon D3S and I love it. If you only could see how dark this piece was on stage. But not on my camera! I use super high ISO and, still, I get almost no noise on the images, simply amazing and sharp photos. I don’t know any other camera body that would be close to do that for me.
This was one of my favorite moments during the performance. I had to do a very quick adjustment on the ISO and speed, so the side light wouldn’t get to bright on her face. To shoot live performances you gotta be really fast, make quick decisions and literally know your camera in the dark. I’ve been shooting with Nikon for 5 years and its all so intuitive now. Love it.
I heard about this Yoga event, to celebrate the summer solstice at Times Square, New York. All I had to do was grab my Nikon - the D3S battery NEVER dies - and head to midtown. Even when I have unplanned photo shoots, I know my camera is always ready. As I am too.
